Turn a Negative into a Positive in Three Steps

We all want our businesses to be successful. I am fascinated by the difference between successful and unsuccessful business owners. I recently discovered the key and I'm really excited to share it with you. It's the ability to be able to turn a positive into a negative.
In business there are many things outside of our perceived control and things that get in our way of achieving what we want for ourselves and our business, they are often called roadblocks. Many people view these as negatives. For me roadblocks have included;
How do I get more clients?
How do I trust others to do a job that I ask and do it well? (Check out my secrets of delegation)
How do I get an endorsement? and
A client no longer needs my services.
The thing I realised is that you may get that client you have been after, you may find someone to help support your business, however the client might decide your service or product is no longer needed. It's who you are in the face of these perceived negativities that help you grow your business.
This is how I learnt to be successful:
The Roadblock
I recently had a client let me know that my service wasn't producing the results she wanted for her business. I was disappointed for her, as she had invested money to setup a website and send out a regular newsletter. I perceived it as a negative that my service wasn't producing the results she wanted and I was disappointed that she no longer wanted to use my services.
Step One Adapt
I stopped and asked myself why I was feeling negative, and put myself in her situation and asked, what would I want if I was her. The Answer: A set monthly price for a newsletter. I emailed her and let her know that I would love to work with her, that she has a great service to offer and that I was disappointed that my services hadn't produced the results she wanted. Also that I didn't want her investment to go to waste. So I offered her the monthly price. She was delighted that I would change the way I work to accommodate her needs.
Step Two Learn
I learnt that any opportunity is available simply through a little forethought and a conversation. I used this potentially negative situation and was able to turn it into a positive and recreate services not only for my client but for future clients in similar situations.
Step Three Be Grateful
Had she not taken me up on my offer I would have been grateful that she allowed me to be part of her business and I would have learned from what didn't work. Every opportunity that comes your way in small business is an opportunity to grow and develop as a business it also helps to be grateful for what you do have.
If you come across a roadblock ask yourself;
How can I adapt?
What can I learn? and
What can I be grateful for?
You will surprise yourself with positivity, great results and ultimately success.
I would love to hear examples of how you turned a negative into a positive, please comment below!
